How to do it

  1. Hold a dumbbell in each hand with a palms-forward grip, keeping your hands slightly less than shoulder-width apart. Let the dumbbells rest on top of your thighs. Your arms should be extended with a slight bend in the elbows, and your back should be straight. This will be your starting position.
  2. Using your side shoulders, exhale and lift the dumbbells. Keep the dumbbells close to your body as you raise them, and let your elbows drive the motion. Continue lifting until the dumbbells are almost touching your chin. Remember to keep your elbows higher than your forearms throughout the movement. Keep your torso stable and pause briefly at the top of the movement.
  3. Slowly lower the dumbbells back down to the starting position as you inhale. Control the descent of the dumbbells.
  4. Repeat this motion for the recommended number of repetitions.
